Big Sur Breakfast Burrito
I've lived in Tucson for over 10 years now, and have had exposure to my fair share of breakfast burritos, though admittedly, I have never gone out of my way to find a frozen one as I had to with this one. ;) Breakfast burritos are generally stuffed with eggs and potatoes, and this was no different, but the real highlight of any breakfast burrito should always be the other ingredients. I don't like to judge food by the picture anymore than I like to judge a book by it's cover, but I was honestly expecting some crisp colorful chunks of pepper. I can't say that those manifested themselves to my expectations, but I'm willing to chalk that up to my aforementioned photo bias. Personally I could have used a bit more spice also, but again, I am biased toward the spicy. In addition, I generally order some kind of meat on my burritos (Chorizo, Machaca, Carnitas, etc...) and the mexican eateries hereabouts tend to spice their meat muy caliente.
That being said, I am well aware that most people prefer less spice, so that's not necessarily a bad thing. The overall texture of the burrito was difficult to differentiate. Ordering this in a store, I'd imagine that the veggies had been somewhat overcooked, but in truth is is more likely associated with the freezing process. And that's all the bad I have to say on that.
To be fair I purchased several other varieties of frozen breakfast burritos, and taste tested to see how they compare. No contest. Every other brand was either mush, or tough as nails. This is the only one that truly fell in what I would call the pleasingly edible category, and the only one that I finished eating. The seasonings were balanced, if not strong, and the texture was consistent, if not as varied as I'd like. Texture is very important to me. Size wise, it was a goodly portion I felt. Overall, the experience wasn't bad. Would I buy it again... if I were going to stock my freezer with breakfast burritos, I totally would, but given the Viva Burrito on the corner...
Big Sur Breakfast Burrito
This breakfast burrito has a good flavor and a nice texture. It does not become soggy or mushy when you heat it up. It is a nice size and fills you up. It does have a slight spice flavor that might take getting used to. It doesn't overpower it but it is distinguishable. I liked that it has more nutritional ingredients in it thatn other breakfast burritos and I loved that potatoes were part of the ingredients. This is easy to make and a great way to eat a bit healthier.
I tried the Protein Lovers burrito because the 3 stores I went to didn't have the Big Sur variety. The burritos were delicious and very filling , it was well seasoned. It did take a minute and a half longer than the instructions on the box said, but that's okay, no one wants to eat a half frozen burrito so the extra time was worth it.
Things I like:
Doesn't lack in the flavor department!
This burrito is definitely different from any burrito I've tried. I like the clean ingredients and the flavor was really what set this burrito apart from other frozen breakfast burritos. Great option for those who are looking for a quick and easy, vegan breakfast.
I really enjoyed the Big Sur Breakfast Burrito very much. The wrap was soft and tasty. I absolutely loved the filling with pieces of red peppers and potatoes. I'm a big fan of tofu so I really liked that I could taste tofu in this burrito. It was seasond just right. I like the convenience of a single burrito package. I can have it on the go if I'm pressed on time in the morning or I can take it to work and have a nice healthy lunch. I'm planning to buy Big Sur Breakfast Burrito and other varities of this delicious product and make it a part of my healthy eating. Thank you Swaggable for a great sample!
